Harry being sensible – again!

The AA has once again called for handheld cellphone use to be banned, on the basis they have been a “factor” in 14 fatal crashes in the last five years. Now to put this in perspective there have been around 2,000 fatal crashes in that time, so the AA thinks something which is a factor in 0.7% of fatal crashes is what should be targeted.

Transport Minister Harry Duynhoven sensibly has pointed out that cigarettes, the radio and the glovebox were implicated in just as many or more crashes, and that unless you want to outlaw having a cup of coffee in the car or children squabbling, then people just need to learn to manage distractions better.

Indeed.
