Website Attack

A few people would have read by now (NZ Pundit blogged it earlier today) that the main National website was vandalised on Saturday.

It isn’t actually quite my area of responsibility any more but having created the very first site back in 1996 I was involved in helping sort things out and ended up fielding the odd media call about it. Newstalk ZB story on Xtra has some details.

Since the passage of the Crimes Amendment Bill No 6 last year, there is now a crime for “Accessing computer system without authorisation” which may have relevance to this issue, if th person responsible is located.

Apart from that pretty damn stupid of the person who did it, because invariably such attacks just generate publicity and more hits for the affected organisation. Its a bit like shooting oneself in the foot to annoy a neighbour with the noise!
