Awatere-Huata one step closer to expulsion from Parliament
Donna Awatere-Huata is on the verge of being expelled from Parliament. Acting ACT Leader Ken Shirley has written to Speaker Jonathan Hunt informing him that Mrs Awatere-Huata’s actions in not renewing her party membership means she has left the ACT Caucus and distorted the proportonality of Parliament.
This triggers paragraph (b) of Section 55A(3) of the Electoral Act 1993 which allows an MPs seat to be declared vacant.
Under Section 55D Awatere-Huata has 21 days to respond to the notice, and then as long as two thirds of her former Caucus ratify the statement, she will be expelled from Parliament.
As previously detailed Kenneth Wang would become the new ACT MP.
