Burton given 26 year non parole period
Graeme Burton has been given periodic detention, with a minimum 26 year non parole period. This means he will be 62 years old when next eligible for release and that in theory he should only be released if he clearly do danger to the community.
His sentence is the second longest non-parole period, behind RSA triple murderer William Bell (33 years). Double murderer Bruce Howse did originally get 28 years but it was reduced to 25 on appeal.
